Calgary Flames forward Erik Johnson has signed an extension through the 2021-22 season, the NHL announced Wednesday.

The contract, which will keep him in the NHL through the 2019-20 season, also includes a buyout clause that will allow Johnson to sign a free agent contract with any team.

Johnson, 29, has recorded nine goals and 23 assists in 62 games this season, ranking second among Flames forwards in goals and fourth in assists.

He joins an Avalanche lineup that includes veteran centre Matt Duchene, 22, who will be eligible to play in the All-Star Game.
