Modern building materials are not all that new.

In 1893, the American Institute of Architects (AIA) declared that “Modern building materials” were a type of materials not suitable to be used in modern buildings.
However, the term “modern building materials,” as originally coined, was not always considered a term used to describe these materials.

This is the latest in a series of articles about materials in modern construction.
The term “metals” is used to refer to materials that are highly malleable, but are not completely flexible.

The materials we’ll discuss are made from materials that, at least in theory, have been in use for centuries, and therefore are relatively common.
